Torah Tidbits with Ben Grosz, Ninth Grade Student

In this week’s parsha, after Yosef reveals his identity and the identity of his family, the pasuk says that Pharoah and his servants found favor and were happy upon meeting Yosef’s family. The Ohr HaChaim HaKadosh asks, "Why were the Egyptians happy upon meeting Yosef’s family?" He explains that the reason they were happy was because originally they thought Yosef was a regular slave and they were sad because they did not want such a person having so much power in Egypt, but once they found out that Yakov was his father, they were happy because now they  knew that he came from such an honorable family (and it was indeed befitting that he have this power). One lesson we can learn from this is that you should never judge a book by its cover. Originally Pharaoh and his servants thought Yosef was a regular slave but then realized that Yosef was special.
