Third Grade Visits the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium

This week, the third graders went to the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium. The students enjoyed  the Enchanted Reef digital fulldome planetarium show about a tropical reef. Then, they went to the lab and learned about food webs, Florida’s ecosystems, and the anatomy of a real alligator. Students were given a chance to pet a small alligator and examine skeletal alligator skulls. During the Touch Tank Demonstration, students learned about ocean organisms through observation and touch. The presenters explained how the  animals' structure protects them. Finally, students were given a chance to explore throughout the center. They visited the large aquarium and explored the Hall of Heroes Exhibit about gadgets, elements, and the powers of the human body. This fun trip connected well with our Science and Engineering units.
