In Science, first graders began a new unit focused on plant parts. Students explored the different parts of a plant, with a special focus on roots. They were introduced to the important science concept of structure and function and learned how each part of a plant helps it survive. Through hands-on activities, students used their sense of touch to examine plant parts, matched each part to its function, and investigated roots by uncovering plants and observing how they grow above and below the ground. Students also learned how different root shapes help anchor plants and absorb water and nutrients. These engaging activities helped deepen their understanding of how plant structures work together.
