This week in Mr. Stoleru’s class, middle school students experimented to see what happens when an electric current passes through steel wool. We’re currently learning how chemical compounds are formed, and this hands-on activity brought the concept to life! Students observed that the mass of the steel wool increased, which might seem ironic, but behind the scenes, the steel wool was bonding with oxygen in the air, causing that increase in mass.
