Our 6th and 7th graders kicked off a new STEAM Fab Lab unit called BYTES with a deceptively simple one-minute challenge: light up an LED. With only Play-Doh, LEDs, batteries, wires, straws, alligator clips, and tape on their tables, and zero instructions, students had to experiment, troubleshoot, and figure it out together. It was amazing to watch how quickly they jumped in, collaborated, and used their creativity and prior knowledge to make it happen. Real problem-solving in action.
