Last week the staff of the High School newspaper, the Warrior Word, was treated to a special visit from alumna and former chief editor and co-founder of the newspaper, Alexis Sugar. Alexis, currently a freshman in the journalism program at the University of Maryland, spoke to the Warrior Word about life in college, working for a college newspaper, and the journalism program at the University of Maryland. She then brainstormed with the staff to come up with stories for the week, and gave advice to editors and writers about developing specific angles for stories. Alexis also offered her expertise on social media, helping the staff devise new strategies to promote the newspaper. Warrior Word team members were not only excited to see their former chief editor, but also thrilled to work with her on the current issue of the paper and learn from her journalistic experience.
