Elementary Students Gear Up For Rosh Hashanah

  • Shofar Factory 2018

The sounds of Rosh Hashanah have been echoing throughout our Elementary School.

This week Grade 2 and Grade 3 joined a live SKYPE presentation from Israel. IsraEd introduced us to Beekeeper Boaz. They learned all about bees, how bees navigate their honeycomb, the queen, and many more interesting facts. What a delight to learn where our delicious Rosh Hashana honey comes from.

IsraEd also brought Grade 3 another guest live from Israel as they learned all about Shofrot, the many horned animals, and what makes a shofar kosher.

Grades 4 and 5 had quite the Elul treat. Rabbi G. of Chabad Youth brought his shofar factory to our school cafeteria. Students learned about the whys and hows of shofar blowing, including what makes a shofar kosher and why we use the horn of a ram. After the presentation, students were given the opportunity to create their very own shofarot. Each student worked with a partner to create a personal shofar. The collaboration and teamwork paid off! The sounds of the shofrot sounded through the cafeteria, as students delighted in blowing their handiwork. What a way to ring in the new year!
