From the desk of Rachel Leubitz, AEP Program Director

Rachel Leubitz, AEP Director

There are many exciting things happening in the AEP department this year:

First off, I would like to extend a warm welcome to Mrs. Dassie Meffi the newest addition to the AEP team.  Previously, Mrs. Meffi worked in New York supporting students with varying ability levels. At Hebrew Academy, Mrs. Meffi supports students in grades K-8 in both English and Judaic Studies.

There have been some changes made to the Zaniac curriculum this year.  We have temporarily removed Minecraft and replaced it with 3D printing for our students who qualify in grades 3-5.  Students will be immersed in the engineering and design process through the 3D printing course. They will improve spatial intelligence through conceptualizing three-dimensional models; printing their own unique and exciting ideas and turning them into reality.  I look forward to seeing what our students will create and where their imaginations will take them.

In order to ensure professional growth this year, the AEP teachers have set a personal goal to meet by years end. They will be provided with an opportunity to attend professional development workshops related to the area they are focusing on.  For example, Mrs. Moyal has been researching the most effective ways to teach Hebrew Language to AEP students in grades 1 and 2. She has attended a few Tal Am conferences and will attend the last conference in the series this year. More updates to come!

The 2018/2019 school year is off to a great start!  I look forward to more exciting events throughout the year. Shabbat Shalom.
