Worm Whisperer Visits the Third Grade

This week, the Worm Whisperer, Zarron Brown, visited the third grade students to discuss composting. Zarron Brown is a former US Marine who promotes sustainability throughout South Florida. Through interactive activities students learned that composting is a natural process that converts organic biodegradable material into a dark rich soil. We discussed the valuable role that earthworms, millipedes, and pill bugs have in this process. During the hands on workshop students became familiar with the characteristics of decomposers. Students learned that composting helps the environment.  Using vermin for composting produces soil that is nutrient-rich. Plants can grow bigger, better, and healthier through composting. We look forward to seeing Zarron back in a few weeks!
