This week the third graders worked on determining the main idea in a text. They learned that the main idea is necessary to understand the whole text. The students listened to various passages and we discussed helpful strategies.
The students began the novel How to be Cool in Third Grade by Betsy Duffey. First, it was read aloud to them and the importance of finding the main idea was reinforced. Then, breakout rooms were used for paired reading sessions and peer cooperation was encouraged.
