Students Across Campus Commemorate 9/11

Where were you on September 11, 2001?

Many of our staff and parents can remember exactly where they were. The memories of those horrific events and the weeks, months and years that follow are forever emblazoned in the memories of those who were old enough to remember. But how do we  help our children of today understand these events and also celebrate the bravery of our first responders.

On September 11, 2019 our Kindergarten and First Grade Students helped to honor our beloved Miami Beach Fire Department. Partnering with the JNF, Israel Counsel and the Mayor of Miami Beach, our students recited the Pledge of Allegiance, and sang the Star Spangled Banner and Hatikvah. Remarks were shared by the Mayor Dan Gelber, Israel Counsel Lior Haiat, Rabbi Shaye Guttenberg, Fire Chief Virgil Fernandez, and Deputy Chief Juan Mestas. The students presented cards, gifts and letters to our firefighters. The common theme of the morning was the bravery of our first responders as well as the commitment of Israel and the Jewish people to always be a partner with the USA.  The program ended with the singing of the most moving and appropriate song, G-d Bless America. Our Middle School and High School students took part in special assemblies where they reflected on this tragedy and lit candles in honor of the thousands of lives who were lost.
